Solving Increase/Decrease in Powers & Percentage

Hi, I’m having trouble with these two topics as I study for my gcse exam in June.

What is the new price after £56 is reduced by 15%? Percentage Decrease: Calculate it as 0.85 5g = £47.50. I don't really understand this GCSE revision guide question. I've tried to understand, but I really can't; I have no idea how the 0.85 came to be. Power multiplication: 48=32, but 48=22 23=25 =32 (again, this is a question from a revision guide). I don't know how 2 raised to the power of 3 equals 8.

Question from the GCSE: 243 / 9 = 7, but 243 / 9 = 35 / 32 = 33 = 27

I apologise for asking so many questions, but if you could please respond to them as this is the only thing I'm having trouble with. I'm grateful.

If £56 is reduced by 15%, that entails that £56 has been diminished by 15%. Saying that you still have 85% of it is another way to look at it. The fraction 0.85 can also be expressed as 85 percent. You can calculate 0.85 of £56 by adding the two numbers together. A multiplication symbol can almost always be used in place of the word "of".
